The handle part on Watson Dumbbells measure approximately 5.5" long. To work out the loading area take 5.5 away from the total Dumbbell length and divide by 2. So on an 18" Dumbbell this will be: 18 - 5.5 / 2 = 6.25" loadable space each end.
